In 1997 Luiz Felipe Scolari joins Palmeiras, winning a number of trophies including El Pais's coach of the year award

In 2000, he joins Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro de Belo Horizonte but he's soon invited to become Brazil coach to replace Emerson Leao

In June 2001 he starts the job of leading Brazil in World Cup qualification - the side eventually edge past Uruguay

A year later he leads the Brazilians to their fifth World Cup triumph with a 2-0 win over Germany in Japan and South Korea

In December 2002 Scolari takes over as Portugal manager - leading them to the final of Euro 2004 where they lose to Greece

In April 2006 "Big Phil" emerges as a leading contender to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson as England boss but turns down the opportunity

During the 2008 European Championship it emerges that Scolari will join Chelsea and move to Stamford Bridge as boss in July
