Southgate gives backing to Grant
Avram Grant
Grant was installed as boss following Jose Mourinho's shock exit
Chelsea boss Avram Grant has received the support of Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate to obtain dispensation to manage in the Premier League.

Still to sign a manager's contract with the Blues, Grant does not have the mandatory Uefa pro licence.

"Most of the older coaches were given special dispensation when the rules were first introduced," Southgate said.

"I'm sure Avram has nothing to worry about because he has the backing of his chairman Roman Abramovich."

Southgate did not have the Uefa pro licence when he took over as Boro manager at the Riverside when Steve McClaren left to become England coach last summer.

Southgate was subsequently given permission by the Premier League to continue in charge at the Riverside on the understanding he continued to work towards earning the qualification.

Grant, previously Chelsea's director of football, was the surprise choice as boss following Jose Mourinho's departure last week.
