Alves looked set to be on his way out of Sevilla |
Chelsea have missed out on signing Sevilla right-back Daniel Alves, who was also a target for Real Madrid. Chelsea had a bid of 21.5m turned down for the Brazilian with Sevilla determined to keep the player.
Alves played for the Spanish side in the Super cup defeat by AC Milan on Friday after being left out of their games so far this season.
"A lot of teams were interested in him but we are pleased he is going to stay," said Sevilla boss Juande Ramos.
"I was hoping to see how he was going to respond against AC Milan but it was not easy because he had to deal with Kaka and Clarence Seedorf and that limited his attacking runs."
Alves was left out of Sevilla's squad for the Champions League tie against AEK Athens on 15 August, prompting speculation that he was close to completing a move.
If he had played in the game it would have made him ineligible to play for another club in the competition.
But now he is staying at the Andalucian outfit he is expected to play in the return leg on Monday after the game was rescheduled following the death of Antonio Puerta.
