Carlos makes Chelsea switch claim
Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos
Carlos's future could hinge on Real's presidential elections
Real Madrid's Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos has said Chelsea want him - but the Premiership champions are refusing to back his claims.

The 33-year-old told Spanish sports paper Marca: "Nothing's been confirmed but I've been told Chelsea want me.

"I have told them they have to speak to Real Madrid and that I have a contract at this club."

A Chelsea spokesman said: "Roberto Carlos can say what he likes, but we won't be making any comment on it."

The Brazilian has one year left to run on his contract but his fate at the Bernabeu could hinge on upcoming elections for a new Real president.

Real are due to appoint a new coach to replace caretaker boss Juan Ramn Lpez Caro.

I'd be surprised to see Tevez in a Chelsea shirt next season
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon

Roberto Carlos could find himself surplus to requirements as the new coach rebuilds Real, whose ageing generation of Galacticos suffered a third successive season without a trophy.

Chelsea refused to comment on speculation that Asier del Horno could move in the opposite direction as part of a possible deal.

The Premiership champions reiterated their stance on Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, whose claims he is on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge were dismissed by Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho travelled to Brazil to watch a match involving Tevez's club, Corinthians.

Kenyon said at the weekend: "We have looked at him and he is a good player and does a good job but all the reports of him being linked with us are not right.

"I would be surprised to see him in a Chelsea shirt next season."

The Chelsea spokesman said: "Nothing has changed from what Peter said, that still stands."
