Mourinho is unhappy at Chelsea's absence from G14

Chelsea have not asked to become part of the G14 group which represents 18 of Europe's top clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Boss Jose Mourinho is allegedly at odds with chief executive Peter Kenyon over the absence of the Premiership leaders.

"Maybe we have a chance of Champions League success if the G14 becomes G15 and we go where the power is," said Mourinho after the defeat by Barcelona.

But a G14 spokesman told BBC Sport: "Chelsea haven't asked to be admitted."

The European teams that make up G14 represent 18 of the world's richest clubs.

But according to the Deloitte Football Money League published in February, Chelsea were the fifth richest club in the world - behind Manchester United but ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal.

The spokesman added: "At the moment we are not currently considering expanding the membership of G14.

"Over the last six months we've been focusing on other things, such as the Charleroi legal case."

Belgian First Division club Charleroi are taking Fifa to court because they are seeking compensation after one of their players was injured when taking part in a friendly for Morocco against Burkina Faso in November 2004, which led to him missing the rest of the season.

Charleroi are backed by G14 in the test case and the organisation has also joined French champions Olympique Lyon in a similar action.
