Cudicini has been second choice for Chelsea since Petr Cech's arrival |
Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to the club until 2009. The 32-year-old Italian has been second choice for Jose Mourinho since he signed Czech international Petr Cech.
Cudicini has played in just 16 of Chelsea's 90 games since Cech was signed ahead in June 2004.
The goalkeeper joined Chelsea on loan from Castel Di Sangro in 1999 and the move became permanent a year later for 160,000.
Cudicini has played five times for Chelsea this season, including the champions' surprise Carling Cup defeat on penalties to Charlton.
He also featured in 4-0 Champions League thrashing of Real Betis, and kept clean sheets in the Premiership wins over West Brom and Wigan.
He has played 175 games in total and has saved six of the 12 penalties he has faced in that time.
