Chelsea have been dealt an injury blow with news that Paulo Ferreira may be ruled out for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old full-back suffered a broken bone in his right foot while on international duty with Portugal against Slovakia on Wednesday.
"He has broken the fifth metatarsal in his right foot," confirmed club doctor Bryan English, who added that Ferreira would have an operation on Saturday.
But the club insist the injury does not signal the end of the player's season.
Ferreira's absence leaves Jose Mourinho's squad stretched at the back with only five fit defenders.
Wayne Bridge suffered a double fracture of his foot earlier in the season while Celestine Babayaro has been sold.
