Waghorn extends stay at Charlton

Charlton have agreed a deal with Sunderland to extend the loan deal for teenage striker Martyn Waghorn.

The 18-year-old joined on a one-month loan in November, but will now be in London until 17 January.

Waghorn claimed his first goal in senior football in Charlton's 2-2 draw with Derby on Monday.

Sunderland could still recall Waghorn at 24 hours' notice, but Charlton are still hopeful that they will be able to extend the deal again in January.

Caretaker Charlton boss Phil Parkinson said he had been impressed by what he had seen from the youngster since he arrived in London.

"I've spoken to Sunderland caretaker manager Ricky Sbragia. He's happy for him to stay," he told BBC London 94.9.

"He'll only get better the more he plays. His attitude alone will get him a good career in this game: not only has he got a good attitude and work ethic, he's got great ability as well."

Waghorn has made two starts and a substitute appearance for the Addicks, who are currently second from bottom of the Championship table.
