Parkinson (right) says he wants a job as manager

Charlton caretaker manager Phil Parkinson says he would be interested in the taking the job full-time.

The former Colchester and Hull boss was assistant to Alan Pardew before he was sacked on Saturday, and he has now taken temporary charge of the team.

Parkinson told BBC London 94.9: "I think once you've had a taste of management, you miss it. I've enjoyed working at Charlton but I'm ambitious.

"Whether it is here or somewhere else, I feel I want to be a manager again."

Parkinson had a successful spell of three years as Colchester manager but won only five matches of a 24 game stint in charge of Hull.

He added: "Am I ready to be a manager again, be it at Charlton or somewhere else? Yes I am.

"I see myself as a manager, but it's not about me, it's about Charlton Football Club, getting this season back on track and that's what we've all got to do."

Charlton's 5-2 home defeat on Saturday saw the team slip into the bottom three of the Championship.

It was a 10th defeat in 18 games for the Addicks this season and Pardew was sacked after less than two years in charge.

Parkinson added: "All the staff were disappointed and sad because Alan is a good man. He's a good friend of mine and all the rest of the staff here.

"No one likes to see anyone lose their job and we've all got to take responsibility for that happening."
