Pardew orders Charlton to move on

Pardew's side have slipped to 20th in the Championship table

Manager Alan Pardew says Charlton must remain positive after Dubai-based Zabeel Investments pulled out of a bid to buy the club.

A club statement on Thursday confirmed the group had withdrawn their indicative cash offer to focus on domestic investment opportunities.

Pardew told BBC London 94.9: "It was always in danger and unfortunately that has happened.

"As a playing staff and management we just have to move on quickly."

He added: "We need to sit down with the board and discuss how we're going to take the club forward from here because obviously it was going to change and now it's not.

"We're in a difficult situation in the league. We need a win, a few wins. There's a lot to discuss and talk about."

The investment group insisted that the change of events was made on economic grounds and also added that it would now not be looking to invest in any English club.

The news will be a big blow to the Addicks and Pardew says it will have an effect on player movement at the club.

"If you're a Charlton fan and you come to the game and you have this new investment coming in and it's looking great, like we can go and purchase some players and improve the team, that isn't going to happen now so I would say they will be disappointed," he said.

"I don't see us doing too much other than generate some funds for ourselves and moving players around."

But Pardew says fans and the club should focus on the positives and try and move on from the bad news.

"I don't think there will be a problem on the playing side," he said.

"It might free us up a little bit, perhaps we were getting a little bit tense knowing we had new owners coming in.

"In the short term we've had to change our agenda, sending our scouts to different places this weekend and move on. The most important thing is to stay positive."

Charlton Athletic PLC chairman Derek Chappell said: "We're not financially in a situation where we're desperately looking for a buyer or anything like that.

"We're not hitting a financial brick wall. We have obligations as directors, doing things in the best interest of the club, to consider those sort of things as and when they come along."
