Charlton manager Alan Pardew says the Addicks will strive to be the best after their disappointment last season.

The Addicks boss told BBC London 94.9: "I certainly wasn't happy with 11th last season. Mediocrity is something that I don't like to do.

"I had a positive meeting with the board this week and I feel we need one or two players, maybe three players.

"Whether we can get them in at the rates that we want is going to depend on negotiating."
