Pardew was appointed Charlton boss in December

He said: "The league table speaks for itself, there's no politics involved, no court cases, this is where it's at.

"What we have to do is focus on our last league game and make sure we leave this division with pride.

"I've signed a contract here and people here have been brilliant to me and in some ways I want to repay that."

He added: "It's the first time I've experienced relegation and I don't quite know how I'll feel over the next few days.

"I know from when I arrived at West Ham that relegation costs people jobs at the stadium, not the players, management or staff usually.

"It's the people who have worked here for 10 or 15 years. Hopefully we can bounce straight back and re-employ them."

Dimitar Berbatov scored a superb solo goal inside the opening 10 minutes and former Charlton player Jermain Defoe sealed the Addicks' relegation with a powerful shot.

The Addicks needed to win to have any chance of survival going into their final game of the season at Liverpool.

"The effort of the players I couldn't fault," Pardew added. "Ultimately we were undone by some real quality.

"The fans gave me tremendous backing and so have the board, we've tried everything and it's not to be.

"I've no regrets, I'm just sorry I couldn't pull it off for them.

"Ultimately, you have to score goals and you're under pressure if you're not scoring.

"I felt we were unlucky with the fixtures, they didn't fall our way. We didn't come across anyone who didn't have an agenda."

The relegation issues could go on after the last day of the season, with West Ham facing potential legal action over the signings of Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez.

West Ham avoided a points deduction for breaking the rules in the signings and Charlton were one of the clubs to threaten to take the matter further.

But former Hammers boss Pardew added: "I'd love West Ham to stay up because there are a lot of people there I love."
