Charlton captain Luke Young has signed a new four-year contract at The Valley. The 26-year-old England defender, who was on stand-by for the World Cup until he suffered an ankle injury, had been linked with a move to West Ham.
But he agreed to stay on last month after meeting new boss Iain Dowie and has now put pen to paper on the deal.
"After listening to what the manager has to say and the direction he wants to take the club, it feels like a place where you want to work," Young said.
"To be honest the chat I had with the manager played a massive part in it all. The gaffer has big ambitions for the club and he wants things done properly.
"It's great from a personal point of view because I feel I've been quite consistent for the club over the past three seasons but there is a real sense of togetherness here and it's that I want to be a part of."
Charlton's other current England international, striker Darren Bent, also signed a four-year deal this week.
Young has made 158 Premiership appearances since joining Charlton from Tottenham in 2001, winning seven England caps since his debut in May 2005.
