![]() | Wednesday, 29 August, 2001, 07:04 GMT 08:04 UK Lisbie's Goal of the Week ![]() Kevin Lisbie's strike for Charlton against Ipswich is BBC Sport Online's Premiership Goal of the Week. Ipswich and Charlton were heading for a goalless stalemate at Portman Road in a game the home side had dominated. But George Burley's 'Tractor boys' had failed to convert their chances and were made to pay in spectacular style by Lisbie five minutes from time. There seemed little hint of danger as the Charlton forward ran onto a ball down the right from Luke Young.
But the 22-year-old unleashed a venomous volley from the right edge of the area that whistled in at the far post. It was only his third goal - and first in the Premiership - in 62 matches for Charlton. "We have been waiting a long time for Kevin to do that," said Addicks boss Alan Curbishley. "He's been on the fringe of the first team for a number of years now and he started the first six games last year. "He just could not get that goal and it's been his fault because it's been a case of bad finishing. "But he's got a lot of other attributes and that has been his only problem - when you get a chance you have to take it at this level." |
