John Reid hopes Neil Lennon follows Jock Stein example
Lennon paid his own tribute to Stein as he arrived for Saturday's game
Celtic chairman John Reid refused to be drawn on the controversial midweek Scottish Cup tie with Rangers as a new statue to Jock Stein was unveiled.
Instead, Reid preferred to stress that the club legend would have liked boss Neil Lennon to bring success with similar "open, attractive football".
"That is the philosophy we remember," Reid said of the former Celtic, Hibs Dunfermline and Scotland manager.
The bronze statue of Stein is at the entrance to Celtic Park.
Among numerous successes between 1965 and 1978, Stein won the European Cup and nine Scottish First Division titles in succession with Celtic.
The statue was unveiled prior to Celtic's 2-0 win over Hamilton Accies in the Scottish Premier League at the end of a controversial week for the club.
Current manager Lennon had been given 24-hour surveillance amid heightened tension around what proved to be a stormy Scottish Cup win over Rangers.
Lennon, who received bullets in the post earlier this season, clashed with Ibrox assistant manager Ally McCoist at the end of the 1-0 home win, which saw three visiting players red-carded.
Reid, speaking in front of the statue, was reluctant to talk about Lennon's off-field issues but claimed that Stein would endorse the Northern Irishman staying at Celtic to try to win the domestic treble.
"We have a great manager who is doing a great job and we are going to concentrate over the next few months on making sure that we bring the trophies back to Celtic Park," he said.
"That is my intention, that is Neil's intention, the players' intention and I'm sure it is what the man behind us, Jock Stein, would want.
"That is to bring back success to this club and to do it by playing open, attractive football."
