Celtic have ended their interest in signing Norwegian striker Erik Huseklepp from SK Brann.
Representatives for the 26-year-old had been in discussions with the Glasgow outfit but no fee could be agreed between the two clubs.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon had hailed the qualities of Huseklepp, who has scored five times in 17 internationals - including against Scotland in 2009.
It is believed the Norwegian side were wanting about £2m for the player.
Lennon has already added Swedish midfielder Freddie Ljungberg to his squad and had also revealed that, even should Huseklepp sign, he would likely make further moves in January.
And, in other transfer business during the current transfer window, Nottingham Forest defender Kelvin Wilson has also agreed a pre-contract to join Celtic in the summer.
Earlier, Celtic defender Thomas Rogne had said his compatriot Huseklepp would be a valuable addition to the Glasgow club's squad.
"He's a great player. He is very technical and quick and he is tall, strong and powerful," said Rogne.
"He has done really well for his club in the Norwegian league and for the national team.
"He has been linked with a lot of good clubs and he is a quality player," added Rogne.
Huseklepp, who scored 10 goals in the 2010 Norwegian season, is also reported to have interested clubs from Spain, France, Germany and England.
