Celtic manager Neil Lennon may be taken to task for his zealous touchline celebrations during last Sunday's victory at Tannadice.

The police match commander overseeing the game took a dim view of Lennon's run from the dugout when Gary Hooper netted a late goal.

And Tayside Police will next week outline their concerns to the Scottish FA and the Scottish Premier League.

Celtic told BBC Scotland they would be surprised if any action was taken.

A club spokesman said: "We have no knowledge of any report made by the police to the SPL or SFA - and no issue has been raised with the club.

"We would be extremely surprised if any action is to be taken against Neil Lennon or the club."

Lennon conceded on Friday that he probably did get "a bit carried away".

"It was just the circumstances. That's the emotion of football sometimes."

Lennon clashed with match officials during the second half when referee Dougie McDonald awarded Celtic a penalty then overturned the decision after consulting his assistant.

However, his mood was lifted when Hooper's dramatic late goal sealed a 2-1 win.

"We felt there was a sense of injustice with the penalty decision and in the end we got what we deserved," continued Lennon.

"It was more relief than anything else."

Dundee United boss Peter Houston was critical of Lennon's conduct, describing the behaviour on the opposition bench as "embarrassing".

"Celtic thought they had won the league here today," he told BBC Radio Scotland after the match.

"The ref has been over talking to Neil Lennon and his backroom staff and when they score a goal they are 25 yards down the track.

"I'm going to start doing that if you are allowed to do that."

A Tayside Police spokesman confirmed that it would be contacting the football authorities next week.

"There is to be some communication regarding issues which arose during the match, but there have been issues identified surrounding the match," the spokesman said.

"There were ramifications during the match with potentially serious consequences and this has to be avoided in future. A letter is to be sent but the officers who were in command at the match are not on duty at the moment.

"The letter has to be drafted once they return next week."
