Assistant Mark Venus admits that Aiden McGeady could yet be sold by Celtic - but only for the right price.

Manager Tony Mowbray last week said that the Republic of Ireland winger was not for sale and that Celtic would not welcome any approach for the player.

"Every footballer has a price, I would suggest at any club," said Venus.

"So it would be folly of me to sit here and say that there's no way Aiden McGeady's leaving. But I would suggest it would probably take a lot of money."

McGeady is being tracked by a number of clubs in England and abroad, with Birmingham City being one known to have made a firm inquiry.

Blues manager Alex McLeish is thought to be considering a fresh move for McGeady, with Celtic likely to be looking for about £10m.

"Everyone undoubtedly knows that he's a very, very good player," Venus said. "I thoroughly enjoy working with him every day in training.

"His appetite for the game and his desire for training and football is fantastic and I don't personally believe he's the type of player that we want to lose."

Venus claimed to know nothing about any interest in Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, who was linked with a loan move to Celtic Park by a morning newspaper.

"I don't know whether there is or isn't," said Venus of the out-of-favour Senderos, who has expressed a desire to quit the Emirates Stadium.

"It's a name that gets bandied around always. In this month especially, there are more and more names put in the papers every day.

"Even I look forward to coming in and reading them to see who we're going to sign."

Venus, meanwhile, was not panicking about Saturday's home draw with Falkirk that left the Glasgow side nine points adrift of Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers, albeit with a game in hand.

He believes Celtic have not been rewarded with the points their performances deserve but said: "We're not winning enough games, are we? I think that's the missing link.

"I am no expert on football, but you have to think that, if we can be a bit tighter at the back and put more chances away, we will be fine as the all-round play has been good.

"Bottom line is, we're second in the league and we're still in the cup."

Indeed, Celtic's next task is Tuesday's Scottish Cup fourth round visit to Cappielow to face First Division Morton.

"It's the main cup competition in Scotland," added Venus. "We play in Scotland - we want to win it.

"So it's very important. It's the prestige final, in the respective country it's in, at the end of the season."
