Brown's ankle injury recurred in Scotland's 2-0 win against Macedonia
Celtic midfielder Scott Brown will see a specialist in a bid to remain fit for the rest of the season.
Brown missed the start of the campaign after undergoing ankle surgery in June.
The problem flared up during Scotland's recent win over Macedonia and, despite a recurrence of the problem, he featured against the Netherlands.
Celtic manager Tony Mowbray said: "I've got a responsibility to the boy and I'll make sure his plight with his ankle is managed properly."
The main concern for Mowbray is Brown's eagerness to play on through the pain barrier, running the risk of losing the midfielder for crucial games towards the end of the season if the problem is not rectified.
For all our peace of minds we're going to have to get clarification on what the problem is

"For all our peace of minds, we're going to have to get clarification on what the problem is," said Mowbray.
"It's dragging on too long. But, by his nature, he wants to play in every game and doesn't want to miss training.
"In the meantime, I've got to balance the boy not wanting to miss a game against us needing him in March if we're still in a very tight league race.
"It will be a specialist having a look to find out the best course of action.
"I'd rather have 100% of Scott Brown for X amount of the season than have him at 75% for the whole season."
