Dutch club Ajax say they have signed midfielder Evander Sno from Celtic.

The 21-year-old Sno had failed to become a first-team regular since arriving at Celtic Park in 2006 and has agreed a three-year deal with Ajax.

Sno was with the Ajax youth academy before joining Feyenoord at the age of 18 and has just returned from playing for his country at the Olympics.

Ajax said on their website: "Ajax and Celtic have reached agreement about Evander Sno's transfer to Ajax."

Sno made 49 appearances for Celtic, mostly as a substitute, scoring just one goal for Gordon Strachan's side.

He had attracted the attention of Celtic while on loan from Feyenoord to NAC Breda.

An under-21 international, Sno was called up by then Netherlands coach Marco van Basten to the full squad for a friendly against England in 2006.

Van Basten stepped down as the Dutch coach after Euro 2008 to take charge of Ajax.
