Strachan praise for SPL quality

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan says there are promising signs for the quality of football in the Scottish Premier League.

"I saw Hamilton against Dundee United on Monday and Hibs-Falkirk yesterday," he told BBC Sport after Celtic drew 1-1 away to Dundee United on Sunday.

"That's three good games and this was a terrific game of football."

Strachan played down suggestions United were denied a definite penalty and said his own defenders were being fouled.

"Their number 10 kept jumping into Mick and Caldwell and, if that had been given, we would not have been speaking about a penalty," said the Celtic boss.

Strachan thought his side ought to have put the game beyond United before the home side equalised.

"The game was dying a bit, but their goal energised them and it became a cup tie again," he said.

"We just lacked a bit of physical presence at the goal, but the guys usually do better than that."
