Caldwell keen to be Celt for life

Gary Caldwell wants to stay at Celtic for the rest of his career
Celtic defender Caldwell is now an established international

Celtic defender Gary Caldwell has said he is keen to play for the Glasgow club for the remainder of his career.

The 25-year-old Scotland international, signed by Gordon Strachan from Hibernian, is entering the final year of a three-year contract.

Caldwell said: "If I was to stay at Celtic all of my professional life I would think that was great.

"The situation is outside my control and it's up to other people to decide but I don't want to be anywhere else."

Caldwell's comments come at a time when Strachan has been attempting to reshape his defence.

He has released centre-half Steven Pressley and the club has stated that Bobo Balde can leave on a free transfer if he can secure a suitable deal at another club.

Another central defender, John Kennedy, has been training with Motherwell, with a view to signing on at Fir Park until January.

The league champions and Auxerre are in discussion over the transfer of Romanian centre-half Gabriel Tamas, though the fee could yet preclude a move to Glasgow.

While Celtic are keen to move on a couple of their older defenders, 20-year-old full-back Paul Caddis has been given a two-year extension to his contract.
