Archive: Aiden McGeady scores against Aberdeen
Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady has signed a five-year contract with the Scottish champions.
The new deal improves on the four-and-a-half-year extension agreed with the 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international in February 2007.
"I'm looking forward to spending the next few years of my career here," said the skilful winger.
"I think I can go on and progress as a player and I can see myself doing that and achieving even more with Celtic."
Several clubs have been linked with McGeady recently, including Sunderland and Newcastle but a move away does not appeal to the player just now.
"There was never any chance of me leaving and going to England this summer," he added.
"I'm a boyhood Celtic fan and then there's the lure of Champions League football.
"I know I have still got a long way to go. I have to be consistent but I enjoy the pressure.
"I need to improve my goalscoring, tracking back and heading - that's probably the worst part of my game."
When asked if he harboured ambitions of playing further afield, McGeady replied: "Maybe further down the line but it's not the right time to talk about it."
In April, McGeady was voted both Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year by his fellow professionals.
"We are delighted that he has committed his long-term future to the club," chief executive Peter Lawwell told the club website.
"Aiden's performances in recent seasons have made him the outstanding player in Scottish football.
