Kennedy was carried off on a stretcher after falling awkwardly |
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan says John Kennedy's knee injury may not be as bad as first feared. The 24-year-old defender was carried off during Wednesday's Champions League victory over Shakhtar Dontetsk.
Strachan said Kennedy was able to move his injured knee, but still faced a number of months on the sidelines.
"It will probably be three months," said Strachan. "He's bending his knee in the treatment room which is absolutely fantastic."
Strachan said results of the scan carried out on Friday would be sent to Doctor Richard Steadman in the United States.
"Once he has had a look at the scans then we will go from there," said Strachan.
Kennedy made his first-team return in April after three years on the sidelines with a knee injury.
He was badly hurt following a challenge by Romania's Ioan Ganea on his Scotland debut in March 2004.
 | I need surgery on my knee Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc |
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Artur Boruc could require knee surgery sooner than the club had hoped.
However, the Polish international anticipates being able to play in the final Champions League Group D match against AC Milan on 4 December.
It was hoped that Boruc could put off surgery until next summer, but the 27-year-old told the Evening Times: "Everything is sore. I need surgery on my knee. I have to have an arthroscopy on it.
"I was going to wait until the end of the season, but now I don't think I am going to wait that long.
"It's not really good just now. But, hopefully, I will be fit for Saturday's game against Hearts and for the match in Milan."
