McManus said Celtic would recover from the Shakhtar defeat

"It was a disappointing result but one defeat doesn't cripple Celtic so far as the rest of the group is concerned," said McManus.

"There's no-one in that dressing room feeling sorry for themselves. You dust yourself down and you move on."

McManus conceded he was at fault for the first of Shakhtar's two goals.

The defeat means Celtic will be looking to beat AC Milan at Celtic Park on 3 October to get back into contention.

McManus' poor touch allowed Brandao to net a fifth-minute opener and Celtic failed to counter after Cristiano Lucarelli headed the second three minutes later.

"On a personal level I know I made mistakes and I also understand I'll make a lot more before my career is finished," said McManus.

"It's all right sitting in a stand and analysing a defeat like that, but out on the pitch we knew we were up against a side who had spent big money on strengthening their team during the summer.

"And it has to be kept in mind that Celtic are still a young side.

"But we have a strong bunch of lads and I can assure you we'll all be pulling in the same direction after a result like this one.

"It would be difficult for us if we had been on a three or four-game losing streak but there will be no panic button pressed by anybody."

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan was left to rue defensive mistakes in Donetsk.

"We couldn't achieve what we wanted to achieve because of the first 10 minutes," he said.

"But I can't criticise the players as we've started the season well."
