Paul Telfer's family still live in the south of England |
Gordon Strachan has denied suggestions that a disagreement between himself and Paul Telfer led to the defender's departure from Celtic. The 35-year-old brought forward his departure to be with his family.
"The last person I would have an argument with is Paul Telfer," said the Celtic manager. "Paul wanted to leave last summer. He stayed on for me.
"He also wanted to leave in January there. He stayed on because Mark Wilson was injured."
Telfer's contract was due to end in the summer and he had stated his desire to return to his family in the south of England.
"He just couldn't stay any longer," said Strachan. "He wanted to be with his family.
"You are really going mental when you are having arguments with people who are not even here.
"Last time I saw him, he was having treatment for a groin strain."
