Tommy Burns was at Celtic's title-winning party |
Celtic first-team coach and Scotland assistant Tommy Burns says he is winning his battle against skin cancer. The 49-year-old former Celtic player and manager was diagnosed as suffering from a melanoma last month. And he told BBC Sport: "Hopefully, I'm getting there. This happens to a lot of people, so it's just a question of taking each day as it comes.
"Through this, I've not been alone. I have my faith, which is fantastic, and I've had lots of messages of goodwill."
Burns, who also managed Kilmarnock and Reading, was given time off by Celtic while undergoing treatment.
He is three weeks into his six-week recovery period and hopes to resume normal duties in the next few weeks.
But he was back at Celtic Park for the first time on Sunday as Gordon Strachan's side were presented with the Scottish Premier League trophy.
"It was a great occasion and nice to see the players again on Sunday," said Burns.
"One or two seemed pleased to see me, which was good as well."
