Lennon banks on Keane for Celtic

Neil Lennon insists that his midfield partnership with Roy Keane will pay off for Celtic.

Following their 1-0 win against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, Lennon believes they have the potential for a winning combination for the title run-in.

"I enjoyed playing with him," he said. "It's only our second game together so it's still early days.

"It was a real test and we came through it pretty well. We had a lot of good possession," added the Celts' captain.

"I don't think he can change the way he is and you wouldn't want him to.

"I am not so shy myself at times. All it does is get a reaction and it's up to yourself whether it's a positive one or not.

"Roy is a great player and you can't have enough great players in your team.

"If he wants to give someone a rollicking, then I will leave him to it. It makes my job as captain easier."

I have had to be patient and I was delighted to be in the starting eleven

Meanwhile, Keane expressed satisfaction with his first taste of the Old Firm derby, as Celtic's midfield came through Rangers' challenge with flying colours.

"It was nice to get 90 minutes under my belt but the priority was to win the game," said the Irishman.

"It is nice to have 100% Old Firm record but that isn't important. What is important is to win the league this year.

"I've played in some big games before so it wasn't a shock for me.

"I have played at Ibrox before with United so I knew what to expect. You have to enjoy these occasions and you obviously enjoy it more when you win.

The 35-year-old has had to bide his time for a regular starting berth since moving from Manchester United to Parkhead in the January transfer window, but is clearly enjoying life under boss Gordon Strachan.

"I have had to be patient and I was delighted to be in the starting eleven.

"That's my second or third full game in five months. Neil Lennon and I can play in the midfield but there are other top players in the squad so you have to fight for your place.

"Everyone wants to play but you have to respect your manager and your team mates if left out.

"Individuals don't come into it but I have made the right decision coming here and I will hopefully get more games under my belt," he added.
