Didier Agathe has failed to dislodge Paul Telfer |
Didier Agathe's agent admits that the defender is likely to leave Celtic unless he regains a first-team spot. Agathe could move in January, although Laurent D'Jaffo believes Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell is still keen for the player to sign a new contract.
"I spoke to Peter two weeks ago and the club is still quite keen on Didier," D'Jaffo told the Daily Mail.
"But, if he is not playing all season, it is obviously difficult to stay at the club."
Former Montpellier and Raith Rovers defender Agathe, whose contract ends next summer, signed for Celtic from Hibernian in 2000 and became a mainstay of Martin O'Neil's successful side.
But the 30-year-old missed the start of the season with a calf injury and has since been unable to dislodge Paul Telfer, signed by Gordon Strachan from the new manager's former club, Southampton, at right back.
"Celtic are looking to be in a situation where they have sorted out all of their contract issues six months before those contracts are due to expire," said D'Jaffo, who is back in Glasgow this week.
"Didier will fight for his place in the team, as he has been in Glasgow for a long time and likes the place."
