Kennedy compensation for Celtic
John Kennedy
Kennedy has not played since his injury
The Scottish Football Association is set to reach agreement with Celtic over compensation for defender John Kennedy.

Kennedy has not played since March 2004 when he suffered knee ligament damage in a Scotland friendly at Hampden.

The payment, which could be 250,000, was confirmed by SFA chief executive David Taylor on Monday.

He told the Daily Mail: "Celtic will receive a compensation payment with respect to John Kennedy's wages following his injury."

Taylor added: "But that figure is capped at a certain level."

The Kennedy issue emerged in conversations with the other home football associations last week.

"Wales and Northern Ireland have withdrawn their insurance cover for international players, while Scotland and England are among the few European nations who have maintained it," Taylor pointed out.

"Withdrawing the cover for Scotland players is not on our current agenda but you could say it is at the back of our minds. The premiums are very high for the SFA."
