Premiership interest in Hartson
Celtic striker John Hartson
Hartson has scored eight goals for Celtic this season
Birmingham and West Ham may make offers for Celtic striker John Hartson when the January transfer window opens.

BBC Scotland understands Celtic will accept a bid in the region of 5m for the Welsh international.

The 30-year-old has been among the substitutes for Celtic's last three matches, despite being the club's top scorer this term.

"Everyone is for sale at a price," was all Celtic boss Gordon Strachan would say prior to the match at Kilmarnock.

Hartson, who is under contract until May 2007, has recently split from his wife, Lowri, and the story has attracted newspaper headlines.

And Strachan is sensitive to personal issues for any player.

"We take that (personal life) into consideration with everybody," Strachan said on Friday.

"Some people, whose personal life is not the best, can handle it, but some find it more difficult.

"We just need to keep an eye on people - not just John - who have off-the-field problems."

Hartson spent two years at West Ham before moving on to Wimbledon in 1999 for 7.5m and it is well documented that the Upton Park side are seeking a striker.

Birmingham are struggling at the wrong end of the Premiership and have found goals hard to come by.

And BBC Scotland understands a move to St Andrews would be Hartson's preferred option.
