David Fernandez (centre) is on loan at Livingston |
Livingston manager David Hay appears resigned to being without striker David Fernandez for the Scottish Cup semi final with Celtic. Fernandez is currently on loan from Celtic Park and Hay believes it is best if the Spaniard doesn't feature.
"I haven't spoken to Martin O'Neill yet but I'm coming to the conclusion that it's in everyone's best interests if he doesn't play," Hay told BBC Sport.
"It would be great to have him in our team but I think it's the best option."
Celtic manager O'Neill had blocked Fernandez facing his side recently in the league.
Now Celtic stand in the way of the CIS Cup winners and their second cup final of the season in a game that would leave Fernandez with possible split loyalties.
"I have no idea if Martin O'Neill will allow me to play in the semi-final, but it's not a game I can win," said Fernandez prior to Hay's announcement.
"If Livingston win, it's not nice from the Celtic point of view and if I don't do well then it's a bad thing from a Livingston point of view, so I can't win.
"But I can't say if I would be better not playing, it's up to the gaffer and it's up to Celtic as well.
"I'm not really thinking about it. I was so glad to play in the CIS Insurance Cup final last week and in the Scottish Cup quarter finals.
"Celtic are allowing me to play right now, so that's what matters."
