Celtic have given up on Douglas playing in the Nou Camp |
Celtic have decided against a second appeal against goalkeeper Rab Douglas's ban ahead of the Uefa Cup fourth-round, second-leg tie against Barcelona. Douglas was sent off in the first leg along with Barca's Thiago Motta.
Celtic have now issued a statement after their appeal against a ban was rejected by Uefa on Monday.
"The club has discussed Rab Douglas' upheld red card with its legal advisers and has decided there will be no benefit in taking further action."
Motta's ban had also been confirmed, while Uefa decided it would not continue an investigation into Celtic defender Bobo Balde's part in the incident.
Balde was already suspended for the tie having picked up a second yellow card in Europe this season.
Barcelona will also be missing Argentine forward Javier Saviola following his red card for aiming a retaliatory kick at Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson in Glasgow.
Uefa handed Saviola a two-match suspension last week, meaning that he will also miss the quarter-final, first-leg should Barcelona progress.
Midfielder Neil Lennon had given evidence in an attempt to clear Douglas.
"I don't know how the fourth official took the decision about what happened in the tunnel," he had said.
"I can't say what happened for legal reasons, but I was involved in giving evidence in a written statement. Three of us gave evidence."
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has given young David Marshall a couple of first-team starts in preparation for the Nou Camp.
Fellow 19-year-old Michael McGovern is set to be on the bench.
However, there are also reports that O'Neill is contemplating an eleventh-hour recall of Magnus Hedman, who is on loan with Italian side Ancona.
