Carlisle boss Abbott primed for new season

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott believes the club has to at least equal their achievements of last season if they are to satisfy their ambitions.

United reached a Wembley final and finished in a comfortable 14th place in League One but Abbott is already seeking a better position this term.

"We've put ourselves under immediate pressure," Abbott told BBC Look North.

"If we're going to show any ambition to the fans of Carlisle we've got to set targets that we can be measured on."

Abbott added: "What people will measure on is the success we had last year."

Meanwhile the Cumbrians boss believes he has assembled a squad equipped to compete in League One this season.

Carlisle have seen 14 players leave during the summer, but Abbott is confident in the strengthening of the squad he and his management team have put together for the new campaign.

"Everybody's trying to make a big deal about the ins and outs," Abbott said.

"We think we did the right work at the end of the season, we think we did the right work at the start of this pre-season and we look forward with anticipation to see if we can improve this year."
