John Ward plans to speak to three targets this week
Carlisle United manager John Ward is set to open talks with three transfer targets this week.
The Cumbrians have yet to make a move in the market this summer, but Ward is hopeful of some positive news as he looks to strengthen his squad.
"I'll be speaking to the players in the next few days and we'll see where it leads us," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"It's a question of being careful and patient and getting the right players for the club."
A central defender is believed to be top of Ward's priority list this summer, although he is also looking for cover at right-back following Paul Arnison's release at the end of the season.

Ward will also begin the search for a new goalkeeper following Keiren Westwood's 750,000 move to Coventry City this week but has indicated that Chris Howarth, last summer's free transfer signing from Bolton Wanderers, will get his chance.
"We will bring another goalkeeper in to the club for competition," said Ward. "It's a valuable position as everyone knows and we need to get a good competitor in there.
"But I think Chris will be in with a shout. He has improved tremendously.
"I haven't seen him at first team level yet so we will have a look at that."
