Carlisle United boss John Ward believes Monday's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest proves they are capable of clinching promotion to the Championship.

The result stunned a packed City Ground and Ward is confident his side can handle the pressure of playing at a higher level.

"There's a fantastic attitude to this team," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"The win gives us that bit of confidence to go and stand up to teams and to play and get results."

Recent away results at Port Vale and Oldham brought the former Cheltenham boss under heavy flak from supporters but Ward felt he had his tactics just right against Forest.

"We tried to get some width because we thought Nottingham Forest would tighten up the midfield.

"We had to respect them and ourselves, they've been forced to change and it's been good for us."
