Carlton scored in the Conference play-off final in May |
Carlisle boss Neil McDonald has signed Morecambe striker Danny Carlton on a two-year deal. Carlton, 23, scored the Shrimps' winner in the Conference play-off final against Exeter at Wembley in May.
As the player is under 24, Morecambe are entitled to compensation, which may be determined by a tribunal.
"To play for a League One side with a chance to play in the Championship is what dreams are made of," Carlton told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"The fans are very passionate up here, and they support the team all the way through. I'm looking forward to it."
Cumbrians boss Neil McDonald told his club's website: "We've worked hard to secure his signature, he comes with a good reputation."
"He's a goalscorer with plenty of drive and brings something different to what we have had here previously."
Carlton is Carlisle's second signing in the space of 48 hours, following the arrival of Middlesbrough striker Danny Graham this week.
He is a product of Morecambe's youth system, and had been attracting the interest of several clubs including Blackpool, who had a bid for the Leeds-born forward rejected in January.
He scored 62 goals in 125 appearances for the Shrimps, finding the net eight times last season despite missing four months through injury.
