Daniel Drinkwater faced stiff competition in Cardiff's midfield

Cardiff City loanee Danny Drinkwater has been recalled by parent club Manchester United.

The 20-year-old England under-21 international was signed on loan for the season but United have decided to end his stay early.

Drinkwater made 12 appearances for Cardiff in all competitions, the last being the FA Cup defeat by Stoke City.

Cardiff last week signed Arsenal midfield duo Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Aaron Ramsey on loan.
