Jon Parkin would have been able to leave Preston for free in the summer

Cardiff City have signed Preston North End striker Jon Parkin for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old, who was out of contract at the end of the season, has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Bluebirds.

"Preston North End would like to place on record their thanks to Parkin and wish him all the best for the future," said a club statement.

Parkin could be available to face Leeds United on Tuesday.
