Jones accepts the situation could have been worse if Cardiff were languishing at the foot of the Championship.
But they go into Saturday's game in fourth and he wants supporters to focus on backing the team to get three points.
"I felt, including the chairman, that the money that was coming in, plus the other investors and the other bits and bobs that he's been promised along the way, would all arrive and everything would run as we wanted it.
"It didn't and the board have made the decision that the money that has come in and other bits of money would have to be used for other things.
"What can we do? Get on with it and that's what we are doing."
Jones says he understands the ill-feeling towards chairman Peter Ridsdale who made an apology on Thursday.
But he wants to see a positive atmosphere at the Cardiff City Stadium for the visit of 12th-place Doncaster.
"I'm asking the fans to turn up and get behind the team and support them," he added.
"We are there to try and get three points and want to keep our run going."
