Joe Ledley has been with his home-town club since the age of nine
Joe Ledley's representatives are set to meet with chairman Peter Ridsdale next week in a bid to resolve the Cardiff City midfielder's contract stalemate.
The Wales international is in the final year of his Bluebirds deal and top flight clubs will monitor the progress.
BBC Sport understands Ledley's agent asked Cardiff chairman Ridsdale to put together a proposal in the summer.
The Championship club then offered the 22-year-old a new four-year deal, with which Ledley was unhappy.
Ledley's agent David Baldwin returns from a business trip to South America next week and hopes to meet with Ridsdale personally as both parties hope for a resolution to the contract impasse.
The 31-times capped Welshman has been linked to Premier League clubs Everton, Stoke City and Hull City while Scottish old firm giants Celtic and Rangers are also apparently interested.
But Ledley, who has skippered Wales three times this year, is ready to commit his future to his home-town club admitting: "Hopefully it will be resolved as soon as possible and I'll stay and I'll be happy."
However, there are a few sticking points such as the buy-out clause for potential suitors and it is believed that the influential midfielder and prized Cardiff asset feels he deserves a wage closer to the club's top-earners.
We've been keen to get these talks underway for a long time but they will have their ideas and we will have ours but the only way we can sort them out is if we get together and talk about it
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones
Ledley captained Cardiff for most part of last season and inspired his club to the verge of the Championship play-offs, losing just five games in five months as skipper, as the Bluebirds missed out on the top six by goal difference.
But Bluebirds boss Dave Jones stripped him of the captaincy at the start of the season due to the uncertainly surrounding his long-term future, awarding the skipper's armband to summer signing Mark Hudson.
The Championship club have put a buy-out clause in Ledley's new, improved deal of £5m but Ledley's representatives would prefer a clause nearer £3m.
Both Ledley and Jones are hoping a compromise can be reached otherwise he could leave Cardiff on a free transfer next summer.
The Bluebirds would receive compensation should Ledley, who graduated through Cardiff's academy, leave when his contract expires next summer as the Welsh club have developed him from a nine-year-old boy to Wales regular.
Ledley has been the subject of consistent transfer speculation for the last few years, Cardiff having rejected bids from Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers before turning down a £6m offer from Stoke City in 2008.
Cardiff also rejected a £6m bid from an unnamed Premier League club last January but, despite intense speculation, no club approached the Bluebirds this summer.
"As soon as Joe's agent rings to make an appointment, I'm sure Peter will see him," Jones told BBC Sport.
"We've been keen to get these talks underway for a long time but they will have their ideas and we will have ours. The only way we can sort them out is if we get together and talk about it."
