Jay Bothroyd hobbles off early in Cardiff's 2-0 defeat at Doncaster
Cardiff City fear a striking crisis as Jay Bothroyd is set to undergo a scan on a potential knee injury.
The 27-year-old pulled up with a hamstring strain in the Bluebirds' 2-0 defeat at Doncaster and was replaced in the eighth minute by Kelvin Etuhu.
Cardiff's medics will assess his injury as they fear Bothroyd's hamstring issue could have been exacerbated by an underlying knee problem.
Boss Dave Jones is still without last season's top-scorer Ross McCormack.
Scotland international McCormack is suffering from a hamstring problem and is set be out for a further four weeks.
Bothroyd, meanwhile, has a history of hamstring problems and spent time on the sidelines with a tear last season so Cardiff's medical team want to investigate if there is a fundamental flaw.
"Jay said he felt something behind his knee," said Jones.
"We'll have a look at the problem, maybe he didn't stretch properly but we'll check it all out."
Bothroyd's early withdrawal was a blow for Cardiff as the tall striker normally marks their front post at corners.
And within five minutes of his withdrawal, the Bluebirds conceded at the near post from a corner when Adam Lockwood gave Rovers the lead.
Jones said Borthroyd's early withdrawal "disturbs everything."
But the Cardiff manager added: "People then have to readjust and to be done from a corner is just laziness on our part as people were not in the position they are told to be in and should have been in."
Bothroyd has been in excellent form in second-placed Cardiff's otherwise impressive start to the Championship campaign and any time on the sidelines would be a huge blow.
But referring to Cardiff's midweek Carling Cup win over Bristol Rovers, Jones pointed-out: "He didn't play the other night and we won 3-1 so it's nothing to do with that."
