Norwich City signed David Marshall for �1m from Glasgow Celtic in 2007
Cardiff City have signed Scottish keeper David Marshall from relegated Championship side Norwich City.
It is believed Norwich will receive a six-figure fee for the 24-year-old, who passed a medical and agreed personal terms with Cardiff on Tuesday evening.
Peter Enckelman was the only senior goalkeeping option at Cardiff after Dimi Konstantopoulos, Tom Heaton and Stuart Taylor's loan spells all ended.
Marshall started his career with Celtic and has won two caps for Scotland.
The Glasgow-born stopper was thrust into the limelight as a teenager with the Bhoys in March 2004, when he deputised for the banned Rab Douglas.
He played in a fourth round, second leg Uefa Cup tie against Spanish giants Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Marshall performed well and kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw that helped Celtic into the next round with a 1-0 aggregate victory.
The following season Marshall again impressed against Barcelona - this time in a Champions League group game as he saved a penalty from Brazilian great Ronaldinho although Celtic still lost 3-1 at home.
Marshall left Celtic Park after the arrival of Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc, initially on loan to Norwich then permanently in July 2007 for a fee of around £1m.
He made almost 100 appearances for the Carrow Road club but with a year remaining on his Norwich contract, the Scotland B international is set to join Cardiff to put pressure on Enckelman.
Marshall was one of the few players to perform for the Canaries as they slipped to relegation to the third tier of English football for the first time since 1959-60.
The goalkeeper joins fellow Scots Chris Burke, Ross McCormack, Kevin McNaughton and Gavin Rae at Cardiff, who have all flourished in manager Dave Jones' senior squad.
Marshall's agent, Willie McKay, said the player was looking forward to joining the Welsh club, who narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs and move to a brand new stadium next season.
"He's really delighted to be coming to a great club like Cardiff City," McKay said. "Cardiff City is potentially a big, big club and all they need to do is step forward into the Premier League and I think they'll be there to stay.
"I'm sure that David will... be a big fans' favourite and I always thought that David would play in the Premier League at some stage and I hope it's with Cardiff City."
Enckelman played just 15 games for the Championship high-fliers this season as Cardiff boss Jones preferred on-loan stoppers Taylor, Heaton and Konstantopoulos - from Aston Villa, Manchester United and Coventry City respectively.
