Cardiff defender Roger Johnson was kept in hospital until Monday

Roger Johnson has received a personal apology from Claude Davis after the Cardiff City player was caught in the throat by his elbow.

The Crystal Palace defender phoned Johnson on Friday after receiving a three-match ban for violent conduct at an FA hearing.

The incident, which saw Johnson spend two days in hospital, marred City's 2-0 win over Palace.

"I believe the boy (Davis) has phoned Roger," confirmed manager Dave Jones.

"I don't know what was said or what Roger's response was, but I think it was done on Friday night.

"He should have done it on the day (it happened), but he's done it now.

"I think justice has been served on it. It's been done and we move on."

Johnson received a blow to the throat during the game at Selhurst Park and after having trouble breathing was admitted to hospital, although he was released 48 hours later.

There was controversy afterwards when Palace manager Neil Warnock defended Davis.

Davis appeared before a Football Association regulatory commission and denied the charge of using an elbow, but was found guilty.
