Gyepes will compete with Roger Johnson and Darren Purse
Cardiff City have signed Northampton's Hungarian international defender Gabor Gyepes to replace Glenn Loovens, who joined Celtic for �2.5m last week.
The 27-year-old signs on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of �200,000.
Gyepes told the club website: "I hope to play for Hungary again, but must concentrate on gaining a starting place and performing well for Cardiff."
The Bluebirds also say they are hopeful of signing a Premier League striker.
They have permission to speak to the front man - who is a current international - and are trying to finalise the move before the transfer deadline.
The Bluebirds have banked �10m from transfers this year as Loovens followed Chris Gunter and Aaron Ramsey - who left for the Premier League for �2m and �5m respectively - out of Ninian Park.
Gyepes joined Wolves in 2005 for �1m from Ferencvaros, impressing before a knee injury saw the termination of his contract by mutual agreement.
After rehabilitation back in Hungary, he joined Northampton in January this year.
The 6ft 3ins defender has 17 caps and played for his country in the 2006 World Cup qualification campaign.
Gyepes, who will compete for the centre-back positions with Roger Johnson and club captain Darren Purse, said: "I have played at this level before with Wolves and am very excited by this new challenge.
"Cardiff is a beautiful city with a superb new stadium and I want to be part of that future.
"It is a big challenge for me and I will always give Cardiff 100 per cent commitment. I look forward to helping this club have a successful season."
Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale said: "We're delighted to have signed him. Before he was injured at Wolves he had a bright future at this level."
