Stephen McPhail insists Cardiff City are not getting carried away despite beating Celtic to lift the Algarve Cup.

The Bluebirds overcame Celtic 1-0 to follow-up their 2-1 victory over Portuguese side Guimaraes in taking the pre-season title.

But the Cardiff captain is keeping his feet firmly on the ground ahead of the new Championship season.

"It's early days. It's only pre-season we are not getting carried away with it," said McPhail.

"But we played some great stuff and maybe we deserved to win it.

"It's great. We came to Portugal to win the games and to win the tournament, and that's what we did."

Joe Ledley, who scored the winner against Celtic, said: "I think we deserved to win the trophy. We dominated both games.''

Cardiff kick-off the new Championship season at home to Southampton on 9 August.
