Dave Jones has been frustrated in the transfer market
Dave Jones concedes his Cardiff City squad need more firepower if the Bluebirds are to push for Premier League promotion next season.
The FA Cup finalists have just three strikers following Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's departure.
City boss Jones admitted: "We're still trying to bring in two strikers as Steve Thompson, Ross McCormack and Paul Parry is all we have.
"We need more depth within the squad and that's what we're trying to get."
Marcus Bent's 11th-hour decision to snub Cardiff and sign for Championship rivals Birmingham City has epitomised Jones' frustrations in the transfer market this summer.
Jones also wants Kris Boyd from Rangers but the Scotland striker, who scored 27 goals last term, does not want to move to South Wales.
Cardiff's new frontman McCormack partnered fellow Scotsman Thompson and scored twice as the Bluebirds beat Guimaraes in their Algarve Cup pre-season clash on Tuesday.
"They can't put in a shift like that every game," admitted Jones.
"I'm having to make Paul Parry a makeshift winger at the moment because Peter Whittingham is injured."
McCormack is the only forward Jones has signed this summer as the Bluebirds manager tries to replace superstar double-act Fowler and Hasselbaink.
And the 21-year-old former Motherwell man was delighted to open his Cardiff account in Portugal.
"I was just delighted to get off the mark and get my first two goals," said McCormack.
Jones, meanwhile, has told Rangers boss Walter Smith he'll have to break the bank to sign Cardiff defender and long-time target Glenn Loovens.
Smith will have to move quickly if he is to recruit Loovens before Thursday's Champions League signing deadline ahead of next week's qualifier against FBK Kaunas.
Jones said: "If Walter wants him then make a bid but, like any of our players, he won't be cheap.
"Walter's got a big decision if he wants to come in for him. We have had no official contact from Rangers but, listening to what other people are saying, then who knows?
"We were told they had someone here to watch our game."
