Cardiff boss Dave Jones says Barnsley's FA Cup run has been impressive

Cardiff visit Wembley on Sunday for the first time in 81 years when they take on Barnsley in the FA Cup semi-final.

But despite the excitement, Cardiff boss Dave Jones says his players will stay focused on their ultimate aim of repeating their famous Cup win of 1927.

"It can get blown out of context and you can forget what you're going there for that day," Jones told BBC Wales.

"What I have noticed from my senior players is they're telling everyone it's a semi-final, it's not the final."

All four teams remaining in the tournament - Portsmouth, the sole Premier League survivors, play West Bromwich Albion in the other semi on Saturday - have a realistic chance of winning the Cup.

"We've got one more step to go up if we want to get to that and if my players stay as focused on that as they have done on the league then I can't ask for any more," Jones added.

"The one thing I do know is that if they've got that focus and that desire they have showed all season, then we've got a greater chance of achieving what we want."

Barnsley, in particular, have helped open the door for their fellow Championship clubs by knocking out Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea.

Cardiff claimed their own Premier League scalp by beating Middlesbrough and start as favourites because of the Tykes' poor form in the Championship.

But Jones says that Barnsley remain as dangerous as ever despite their battle to avoid relegation.

"It's strange (to be favourites) seeing that Barnsley have come off the back of two fantastic results against Liverpool and Chelsea," Jones said.

"So favourites don't mean anything, we've got to go and do what we do best and if we do that then we have a chance."

Forwards Paul Parry and Steve Thompson are doubts after sustaining hamstring strains during Tuesday night's 0-0 draw against West Brom in the Championship.

Jones remains hopeful that one or other will be fit for Sunday's match, but hopes to make a more detailed assessment when the squad reconvenes on Friday after recovering from the Baggies game.
