Jones in Wembley warning to stars

Dave Jones has warned his Cardiff City stars their Wembley places are on the line against Southampton on Saturday.

The Bluebirds' first FA Cup semi-final for 81 years against Championship rivals Barnsley is next weekend.

Cardiff have a slim chance of reaching the play-offs so Jones has told his men to keep focus on their league campaign.

"Whoever has the shirt, it's up to them to keep the other guys out," said boss Jones. "The guys that are doing the business will play at Wembley."

Jones has given Kevin McNaughton a Tuesday deadline to return from his hamstring injury, telling the Scottish right-back he must play against West Brom if he's to win his place back for Wembley.

"Kevin has got to test his hamstring before he plays on such a huge pitch as Wembley," said Jones.

The Cardiff manager also confirmed rookie right-back Darcy Blake will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Barnsley due to a groin strain he sustained while away on Wales Under-21 duty.

Striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink misses Cardiff's Saturday showdown with the Saints as the one-time Premier League goal king serves the second match of his three-game suspension.

"I've no hesitation leaving anyone out of the FA Cup game," said Jones. "I want the players who play on Saturday to make my selection choices difficult."

Left-back Tony Capaldi's back injury means he could miss Southampton's visit to Ninian Park so Jones is set to play two midfielders at full-back to solve his defensive crisis.

Wales star Joe Ledley is poised to slot in at left-back in place of Capaldi while Trevor Sinclair has told Jones he's willing to play as an emergency right-back.

"I've said to the manager I'd play anywhere," said former England international Sinclair.

"I've played at right-back before and I'll play there again if the natural right-backs aren't available."

Cardiff are seven points off the Championship play-offs with two games in hand.

"We still believe we can achieve qualification for the play-offs," said Jones.

"Our two games in hand are West Brom and Wolves and it's great to be involved in a play-off push."
