We'll appeal sending-off - Jones
Cardiff manager Dave Jones
Jones says there was no malice in Hasselbaink's challenge for the ball
Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has confirmed the club will appeal against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's sending off in the 1-1 draw at Colchester.

Hasselbaink was sent off for a challenge on keeper Dean Gerken, but Jones believes the decision was harsh.

"I don't think it's a sending off," said Jones, "but it's best to leave it to the officials and see if they'll look at it. We'll take it from there.

"We'll appeal because we think it's an appeal-able decision."

606: DEBATE

If the appeal to the Football Association of Wales is lost, Hasselbaink will miss the Bluebirds' next three league games.

Jones says the 62nd-minute incident mirrored that of an earlier challenge on Bluebirds' goalkeeper Peter Enckelman.

"I've only got to show the incident in the first-half when their lad caught our 'keeper.

"What's the difference? There's none whatsoever. Jimmy's got his eye on the ball and he's going for the ball. If he gets a touch, he scores.

That is purely two people bravely going for the ball, not for each other. It was the same in the first-half when their lad caught Peter

"Unfortunately he's missed the ball and caught the 'keeper. To me that doesn't mean it's a sending off.

"If the 'keeper comes out with his foot up to protect himself and catches Jimmy . . . how many times do you ever see something given for them?

"Hopefully they'll check it and we'll go from there.

"It was a bouncing ball. I played many games as a defender and would expect my forwards and the opposition's forwards to go for that type of ball.

"Unfortunately he caught the lad, but there was no intent or malice in it whatsoever. I thought something has to be deliberate, but that's not.

"That is purely two people bravely going for the ball, not for each other. It was the same in the first-half when their lad caught Peter.

"I didn't see or a red card or yellow card for that because he was going for the ball and was entitled to do so and Jimmy was as well."
